Our point of view statement from a while ago was:
20-30 year old emerging adults are feeling lost and as though they have failed. They need a way to embrace this exciting stage of life and to be reassured that they have not failed because, surprisingly, emerging adult hood has emerged ( the new 20 yrs) due to the changing world and larger ambiguous gap between school and adult life has formed. In generations before, this ambiguous stage did not exist; yet this new vast space in ones life now exists due to the continuous changes the 21st Century has brought.
This pov statement is far to long and does not get to the heart of our surprisingly.
We uncovered this incredible quote that gave us a great insight in a way to improve/direct it better.
“The way I'm living my life is probably 80/20 in favour of what I believe others expect of me vs what I really want to do. Having that awareness doesn't actually make it any easier to digest unsurprisingly.”
The insight in this quote is that they are aware that they don't live for themselves and chose what they want over what others want. So we don't need to educate emerging adults as they are aware of these feeling we need to create something that helps them to live for themselves and have faith in the direction in life they want to take.
“My main goal in life is to be happy but my parents don't veiw life like that so I am constantly torn between wanting to not take life to seriously and settling down with a serious job.”
“As I've got older it has become more clear to me that what my goals and expectations are, should be a reflection of what I want, not for example what my mother wants. At this stage in my life, I've began to realize that it is okay to say no and do what I think is best.”
The quote above is what we want people to feel/understand, as this person has come to this conclusion yet we want to facilitate and help people to came to it easily and quickly.
“All of the pressures. Get married. Buy a house. Have kids. Earn good coin. Have a good job but preferably a career. Have a sound reputation. Spend money on buying status items but don't get into debt ever and don't spend irresponsibly. Drink but don't drink too much. Don't do drugs. Be straight up and down, live a grey life. “
The insight in this quote is that they know already the life they feel pressure to live is a grey one.
how can we use design to help people lead the colourful life they desire.
Confidence in yourself
This is the real me, spill your guts, don't try to change to or adapt to fit in because then there will be no you. How might I be more of my authentic self, and be comfortable with that?
Video campaign:
A way to reassure the generation currently evolving as emerging adults is by means of a fun, quirky, colloquial campaign which all links back to a hand written guide of how to rock the age of possibilities by other emerging adults themselves.
Video campaign of current adults whom wish they had lead their own colour full life rather than the grey one that society sets for them juxtaposed with people whom have lead the life they chose and are happy in it.
