Feedback on our 'Big Idea' 24/09

I gathered a few peers, Matt and Steve, to see what they thought of our project and the idea.

[about the idea]
– After explaining the big idea and the event, Matt and Steve agreed it was like a peer mentoring programme, where you can find a role model.

– Matt reckoned we need to somehow focus on motivating and inspiring people to come to our event, to get a role model (mentor) through sharing stories, and getting the right people to come!
He thought we should make sure we get different groups of people (mentors) which others can aspire to is important, so that they can get tailored direction from the mentors (specific to what they need help to do) and questioned how would get these people.
– Matt also reckons we do need to establish in some way who might be 'coaches'/mentors and who might be the rookies. Because they might individually know who they are when coming to the event.. But we may not know who they are. Maybe there's a way they have to pick themselves, like pulling out of the hat type of thing or picking out of two coloured dots.
– He asked if this event was specific to the location/area of wellington, or if it would spread out over NZ. He said we should create it so it's not setup just for on place; so that others can start one up in their own town and carry it on/over (follow our lead, spread the word.) This could be a proposition for the event, based from a NZ website.
– Lastly, he agrees that the 'reward' from this is personal satisfaction, from 'doing good,' and also from the perspective of the 'rookie' it is especially rewarding from the skills/info and knowledge they learn/gain. - rewarding sense of purpose and draw cards.

– Steve thought the event would be good if it was really casual, but that there needs to be some sort of way to get the ball rolling through a 'reward programme' where we say "the first 10 people to make conversation get merchandise" of some sort.
There also needs to be a way of nudging the connection in a non-pushy way for the people at the event, rather than leaving them awkwardly nervous. He thinks if he were there, he would prefer to know what area the individuals have the best skills in, and who the 'mentors/coaches' are.. so that he's talking to people that can help him.

– (Steve) The name Rookie can be taken in a good or bad way. "It makes me think of a 'newcomer' like a novice or underdog, but also like 'rookie of the year"

[about the poster]
– The colours are quite heavy and a bit depressing colours, needs to be brighter or happier?. "He makes me feel sad, I feel like I need to be cheered up"
